It's a brand new year - 2025 and here on Cape Cod winter has definitely arrived! Depending on the day there is a skim of ice on the harbor. Pop on your Wellies with a pair of warm socks and take a walk along the beach and come home inspired. That’s exactly how our fabric patterns come to be. Our design studio is just up the hill from Cotuit’s harbor so we are inspired daily by what we collect at the beach – seaweed, mermaid’s purses (skate pods), various crabs and assorted seashells. From wash ashores to hand-sketched designs that come alive on 100% Belgian linen. We are a small Cape Cod textile company that is passionate about the environment, a casual coastal lifestyle and interior design.
Select Linen Fabric
Fabric is an essential component of every decor. Start by selecting 100% Belgian linen that fits a coastal vibe and provides an ecological option. Linen by nature is sustainable as it's made from flax. Design No. Five's fabric starts with Linen as the ground cloth and then our DN5 designs are printed at a mill in the USA using only eco-friendly inks.

Being a responsible coastal dweller includes an interior design approach that incorporates "Upcycle, Upgrade and Uplevel" of vintage pieces. A common theme in coastal decor includes hand-me-downs and inherited treasures that could use some TLC. Just like one of our family's cast aside...
A mid-century chair that had seen many different stains, fabrics and locations over the past 70+ years was long overdue a refresh. Featuring our DN5 horseshoe crab XL in Black on natural line, it is truly a conversation piece!
Kid and Pet Friendly
Linen fabric is durable and rugged. Exactly what is needed for a casual coastal home with kids and pets. Linen looks great crisp and freshly pressed or shabby chic comfortably wrinkled - linen has a casual elegance that works no matter what the setting!
Taking a page out of haute couture's story.
Linen bedding breaths, making it perfect for coastal living. Every wash makes your custom linen bedding softer and softer and softer...

Creative Coastal Colors

Soft Pumpkin 2166-40 mixed with water.
We went to great lengths to match the walls to a pair of my husband Phil's Nantucket Red pants. Much of our old Sea Captain's house is white so we wanted to mix it up, plus we had a desire to be true to the bolder jewel tones of a 1700's Sea Captain's home. Shades of deep blue, green and various shades of red on the walls and trim were very much in vogue in that era.
Our "red room" is a Nancy Meyers' design homage. Oh to be as talented as Nancy Meyers or to have been part of her design team for the movies Something's Gotta Give, The Holiday, It's Complicated or The Intern just to name a few favs.

All Together NOW...
coastal, casual, eco-friendly, and stylishly wow
What was your first clue this is a beach house? The Beach House sign was purchased years ago from a local store which has since gone out of business. The overstuffed Ralph Lauren sofa was purchased for $75 and rebuilt by my favorite upholsterer SynThomas in Hyannis MA and reupholstered in Libeco Linen's Dark Winged Flax. Coffee table was a piece left behind in one of our homes by a prior owner. It had been built as a means to keep boxes off the damp basement floor - a little sanding and a coat of paint transforms this primitive bench into the most usable table for our "cocktail room". Lamps are from Target.
