Celebrating 50 Years... EARTH DAY!

We live in a coastal community, have our design studio just up the hill from the harbor and use the tag line "coastal inspired" for our line of linen fabrics. Needless to say we absolutely care about protecting our coastal waters, beach and planet in
general. Being eco-friendly is central to our business!

How can we all help.  One organization that is so unique and impactful is the Surfrider Foundation. Be sure to check out their mission. Their programs with Ocean Friendly Restaurants and Ocean Friendly Gardens are so creative. Join their efforts - learn and donate.

Earthday.org is recommending 11 actions for the planet during a pandemic. Learned how to make lemons into disinfectant and we've starting composting!
April 22 is Earth Day so be sure to follow along on the Earthday.org official site
for 24 hours of digital action.  You don't want to miss any of it.

A few simple changes we have made in our household to reduce our trash and burden on recycling that I'll pass along. Use cloth napkins, in our case a set of Design No. Five's custom linen napkins made out of our Seaweed in Mariner's Blue. Combine this with your morning coffee made in a French Press versus using k-cups. We drink a ton of coffee so abandoning our Kuerig in combination with our new system of composting has significantly reduced our trash. Just start, it's easy.

Last but not least...been looking at that poor old chair that looked great when you bought it 15 years ago - not so much now. Say no more, reupholster or slipcover with a fun yet sophisticated linen fabric.  We are quite biased here at DN5 and use only Design No. Five coastal inspired, hand-sketched, 100% Belgian linen. I am sure there are more adjectives we might use but this will suffice; however, given today and every day is Earth Day we need to consider eco-friendly fabrics. Linen is made from flax and flax is one of the sturdiest and most durable fibers available, making linen practical. The other consideration is that flax requires no fertilizer, pesticides in its growth and is harvested and woven in a very straightforward manner with low ecological impact. Believe in Linen
