Behind the Scene...

How does creating a line of fabrics begin? What prompted the deep dive into the unknown of textile design? So many questions, yet one simple answer – void in the market or emptiness – best described by poet, Jalal al-Din Rumi.

Excerpt from One-Handed Basket Weaving, by Rumi
I’ve said before that every craftsman
searches for what’s not there
to practice his craft.
A builder looks for the rotten hole
where the roof caved in.
A water-carrier
picks the empty pot.
A carpenter
stops at the house with no door.
Workers rush toward some hint
of emptiness, which they then
start to fill. Their hope, though,
is for emptiness, so don’t think
you must avoid it. It contains
what you need!
Dear soul, if you were not friends
with the vast nothing inside,
why would you always be casting your net
into it, and waiting so patiently?

Our design team’s “emptiness” was a need for simple and fresh designs that reflected what is found on our local beaches. A lifestyle of beach living includes sand under your feet, wind in your hair, collecting beach treasures and basking in the sun.  Finding beach treasures coupled with our goal of providing more earth friendly fabric choices culminated in – Coastal Meets Cozy -our new fabric collection.  AND the good news is there is so much more coming your way.  We’re thinking about fish, birds, bugs and baseball – yes baseball.  Feel free to send ideas our way.

Hope you continue to follow along as we JOURNAL what is happening behind the scene.

With style,

Beth
