Owner & Designer
Beth comes to design from a background spanning corporate sales and marketing to designing and manufacturing children’s knitwear to the 2006 launch of BjtO Designs, a home staging firm serving Boston’s luxury home market. Design № Five, Beth’s fifth business venture, is the culmination of her design talent and management expertise along with her team-building know-how. Beth divides her time between a loft in downtown Waltham and Cotuit with her husband and DN5 partner, Phil, and she is the mother of two daughters.
Creative Director & Artist in Residence
Karen creates, sources and installs art for our staging and design clients, orchestrates our showroom displays, and coordinates our gallery shows featuring Cape Cod artists. She designs and builds furniture and drives our commitment to sustainability through creative up-cycling. Inspired by the intersection of earth and ocean, she is an impressionistic painter in oils. And she is an in-demand faux painter. Karen, a native of Cape Cod, lives and paints in Centerville with her two sons.
Erica Robbins Darnall

Through studies in Art History and French Literature and years living in Paris, New York and New England, Erica has honed a broad design aesthetic and a talent for channeling each client's taste into a customized, beautiful outcome. A graduate of Hamilton College and Columbia University, Erica lives in Lincoln with her husband, three children and their Labrador.
Lead Interior Designer - Cape Cod and the Islands
Jess leads our design endeavors on Cape Cod, the Islands, and surrounding areas. Jess began her design career at age 13, specifying paint colors, custom bespoke bedding, and even a custom blended scent for her bedroom in her family's new home. Her passion for design and for creating chic but livable spaces has continued from there. Jess brings to her designs a unique aesthetic perspective, having lived in Paris, Atlanta, and Boston, and having travelled extensively outside the U.S. She describes her approach to design as a "conversation" between herself, the client, and the home, and specializes in tailoring the final product to speak perfectly to all three parties. Before shifting to full-time design, Jess practiced as an attorney, a career which has given her unparalleled skills in managing suppliers, contractors, and project timelines, among other things. A graduate of Emory University and The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, Jess might be a washashore, but she adores living on Cape Cod with her two young children.
Courtney’s background spans the art and fashionworlds; a passion for interior design brought her to Design No. Five, where she works as a stylist. A Cape Cod native, Courtney constantly draws inspiration from the coastal lifestyle and unique textures of her surrounding landscape. Her design aesthetic juxtaposes modern with traditional elements and she brings a perfectionist’s eye for detail to each and every project. Courtney has a degree in graphic design and lives in historic Barnstable Village with her husband and their young son and daughter.
